About the Author

Lynn Coulter is a native Southerner. She holds a BA in Journalism, summa cum laude, from Georgia State University.

A freelance journalist since the early 1990s, she has written for Sky, Family Circle, The Weather Channel, Southern Living, Atlanta Homes & Lifestyles, Lionel Trains, Georgia Wildlife Federation, Easy Gardening, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution newspapers, and many other publications. Her topics include travel, homes and gardens, spirituality, books and their authors, parenting and the family, health, humor, and nature and the environment. She served as a Contributing Editor to Delta Air Lines' Sky Magazine from 1999 to 2003 and is still a frequent contributor to its pages.

Lynn is also a member of the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI). Her short stories and features for kids have appeared in Ranger Rick, Sky 4 Kids, Jack and Jill, Fantastic Flyer, Pockets, and the "News for Kids" section of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. She was one of four fiction writers honored at the first Southern Women's Writers Conference at Berry College in Rome, Georgia, and her short story, "Acts of Faith," was selected for O Georgia! A Collection of Georgia's Newest and Most Promising Writers, an anthology published by Humpus Bumpus Books.

She has been honored to receive an Individual Artist Grant in Literature from the Georgia Council for the Arts. The SCBWI named her a runner-up for their Work-in-Progress Grant for a Contemporary Young Adult Novel.

Her first book is Gardening with Heirloom Seeds: Tried-and-True Flowers, Fruits, & Vegetables for a New Generation (The University of North Carolina Press, June 2006).
She is a popular guest speaker at gardening events, schools, and writing conferences and workshops.
